Summer Season 2009
10th Anniversary Season

|
In choosing the shows for our Tenth Anniversary Season I knew immediately I wanted to open the season with the show that started it all ten years ago, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It is one of the most requested shows we have ever done and one of my favorites. I also knew I wanted to end the season with the show that closed our first season, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, which has become a fixture here at Starlight.
For the three other shows I turn to our wonderful patrons. Ballots were sent to Starlight’s email list and the vote came back as follows: (1) Footloose, (2) The Boyfriend, (3) Annie Get Your Gun (1999 Revival). So, with all five shows set, we hired the actors and went to work. We are so excited for our 10th Anniversary Season and to show our thanks to our valued patrons we have rolled back our ticket prices. So, join us for our exciting tenth summer season of Broadway Musicals Under the Stars! Come to the Mountains To Play!

Lyrics by Tim Rice Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Ten seasons ago we opened Starlight’s very first season with this amazing show. It has been a Starlight favorite ever since, and is now back by popular demand! Andrew Lloyd Webber’s international mega-hit brings the biblical account of Joseph’s Coat of Many Colors to hilarious life on-stage. Incredible music, dynamic staging, side-splitting comedy and a host of unforgettable characters make this classical production a treat for young and old alike.
"A technicolor triumph. This wonderfully warm-hearted, production...makes you cry with happiness."
The Independent
"This enchanting musical explodes like glittering fireworks. The best kind of feel-good show, unashamed, warm-hearted and irresistible."
Sunday Times
"A dream come true. It is utterly irresistible."
Mail On Sunday
Opens May 29, 2009 – Closes July 4, 2009

The Boy Friend is a sparkling, tongue-in-cheek romantic spoof of 1920's musical comedy. The setting is the French Riviera where English heiress, Polly, falls in love with handsome delivery boy, Tony. Wary of fortune seekers, she poses as a secretary, unaware that Tony is in fact the missing son of wealthy Lord Brockhurst. Complications begin with the unexpected arrival of both Polly and Tony's parents. With its catchy tunes, winning humor and high energy dances (including the inevitable Charleston), The Boy Friend entertained audiences for over five years in London's West End. The Broadway production ran for 485 performances and starred a then unknown Julie Andrews as Polly. This role turned her into an overnight sensation, and in 2003, Julie Andrews made her directorial debate with a National Tour production of this show.
A word from Artistic Director Ed Davis.
This is the first show in which I directed my wife Jan, and it is one of my all-time favorites. What attracts me to the show are the zany characters and the high energy dance numbers.
A word from the critics.
Just the right combination of parody, nostalgia and candid paraphrase of a period... a constant pleasure." - The New York Post
"Charming... positive and disarming. A delight! - The New York Times

Annie Oakley is the best shot around, and when she's discovered by Buffalo Bill, he persuades her to join his Wild West Show. It only takes one glance for her to fall head over heels for dashing shooting ace Frank Butler, the show’s headliner. Annie soon eclipses Butler as the main attraction which, while good for business, is bad for romance. With his bruised male ego leading the way, Butler is ultimately pitted against Annie in a final shoot-out. The rousing, sure-fire finale hits the mark every time in a testament to female ingenuity.
A word from Artistic Director Ed Davis.
“Annie Get Your Gun” was part of our 3rd summer season. Since then, a Broadway revival of the show was produced, starring country star Reba McEntire. The new, updated script has a very humorous second story line yet still contains all of those beautiful Irving Berlin songs. I love the new version of this show even better than the original, and am excited to bring it to the Treasure Valley.
A word from the critics.
"A musical for the ages, one of Broadway theatre's enduring triumphs." - The New York Post, 1999
"What a wonderful musical Irving Berlin's ANNIE GET YOUR GUN is: the melodies just shake out of it in an endless cascade, and the simple story is unexpectedly involving. We care!" - The New York Post

“Exhilarating, spectacular, fun, fabulous! This show rocks!” Critic Jeffrey Lyons states, “You’ll have a hard time staying in your seat!” Based on the 1984 hit movie, Footloose is the story of the new kid in town, a free-spirited hero who reminds everyone that it's no sin to be young. A family musical with electrifying music and dance, it is the tale of struggling to overcome well-intentioned but misguided oppression, and coming to terms with loss - a boy's loss of his father and a man's loss of his son. Don’t miss the show that critics call, “The Grease for the new millennium!”
